How depressing...

So I get all excited thinking Schumacher is going to come back and drive around, thus making me happy, even if he wasn't winning all the time. Then that doesn't happen. That really pissed me off. I would have liked to see the lap times he did testing the old Ferrari as I give it a 50/50 chance that it really was his neck bugging him on long hauls or that he'd lost a bit more speed than he thought. Who knows. I was quite surprised at how poorly Luca Badoer showed.

While I was really bummed Schumi didn't rise from the retired and that Badoer was shitty, I must say I thought it very cute Ferrari signed Turdsy Fisichella. Now, I've never been a huge fan of Fisi, and have actually been wishing he would just leave F1 now for a few years, I do have a soft spot for the guy. I remember in 2003 or 2004 when when he was out of a drive with either Jordan or Sauber that I read a story on Yahoo about Turdsy wanting to drive a Ferrari. It was absolutely pathetic and schmaltzy. But now he is a driver for Ferrari and can go away at the end of the season. So I guess it is a win-win.

Now we've got the whole Renault thing. We'll discuss that soon.

Bernard and I think alike, apparently...

LONDON (AFP) - Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone believes the racist abuse suffered by Lewis Hamilton in Barcelona is just "an isolated incident" and claimed that the FIA's anti-racism campaign was "not necessary".

"All it does is give attention to people who want attention," F1 boss Ecclestone told the BBC.

Ecclestone described the abuse, in which Hamilton was taunted at a test session at the Circuit de Catalunya by spectators with blacked-up faces and wearing wigs last month, as "a one-off".

As my last blog entry below shows, I expressed the same sentiment three days ago as Mr. E recently has.

I must say, the next 24 days can't go by quick enough. That first Friday practice will be my personal highlight of 2008 up to that point, with Saturday and Sunday replacing the previous day as said high point. I've taken off work so I can bask in the first shots of F1 of 2008. I miss Friday/Saturday excitement. For the last five years of Schumacher's career I used to watch every Friday practice, Saturday quali, and Sunday race live, and record it. This involved getting up either in the middle of the night or staying up real late, depending on where the circus was. I always hated North and South American races because they came on in the middle of the day and I was so used to getting up at 730am to watch my F1. This past year I almost never watched or recorded Friday practice. Same went with quali, though some times I would record it. After the third or forth race I stopped getting up for the races and would just set the VCR. the only thing that sucked about that is that since I wasn't watching it, I couldn't pause for commercials. I don't really feel like my enthusiasm for the sport is fading, I just miss Schumacher (and I work weekends now so I try to sleep as late as possible) though I think this year I am going to attempt to wake up for practice/quali/race... We'll see how that goes.

Michael Schumacher should be sneaky

So I've read that Schumi is going to do some testing with Ferrari in order to help them gain some knowledge about driving the cars with out electronic aids, considering all the other drivers in the field, barring DC & Barrichello, have probably never driven a Formula One car with out such aids. That's pretty cool. Sure, he's not racing, but at least he's driving the cars around. I look forward to seeing the time sheets and reading the reports, since I'm curious to see how he feels mentally and more importantly, physically, after being out of F1 cars for over a year. I hope he tops the time sheets. That would be fantastic.

What would be even greater is if like some time next year Kimi got drunk the night before a race and was hella hung over the next day and Schumacher subbed for him, but nobody knew it was Michael. Like, he'd wear Kimi's helmet and everybody would think it was Kimi and it wouldn't be. That would happy me so bad. F1 needs silly guest appearances from old stalwarts like in the WWE. Sure, F1 is serious and millions of dollars and championships are on the line, but it would still rule totally hard!

This last bit has nothing to do with any thing current:
